Bearded Dragon tooth brushing

The most important part of dental hygiene is maintaining an appropriate diet, a mixture of plant based and insect based food rich in calcium and Vitamin D.

In addition to providing a species-appropriate diet, regular tooth brushing can help reduce plaque buildup and keep the gums healthy.
You can clean teeth using an infant tooth brush (age 0-3 months) - the softest bristle available - with MAXI/GUARD® Oral Cleansing Gel.
Apply a small amount of gel to the tooth brush. Don’t use human toothpaste, of course!

Recent veterinary research has shown that bearded dragons with dental disease have significant changes in the bacteria living in their mouths. The same study also found that dragons fed fruit had a different oral microbiome, with a greater abundance of microorganisms that may contribute to oral disease. As a result, we recommend avoiding fruit entirely—including commonly offered items like butternut squash—to help support long-term oral health.
